The 64th poster for Festival del film Locarno, 21 | 1 | 2011
The poster for the 64th edition, created by Jannuzzi Smith, is the first in a new series of three posters on the theme “Beauty and the Beast”.
It is divided into two sections: action and reaction, separated by vertical bars that suggest captivity and captivation. The relationship of the protagonists is that of ours with film. Held in each other’s gaze, they are simultaneously distanced by two separate projections requiring the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point to reconstitute the image – distortions that compel the viewer to engage with the images from different perspectives, much as film itself acts upon us. Il manifesto della 64a edizione del Festival del film Locarno, creato da Jannuzzi Smith, è il primo di una serie di tre manifesti dedicati al tema della “bella e la bestia”.
Il poster è suddiviso in due sequenze, azione e reazione, separate da barre verticali che suggeriscono cattività e seduzione. La relazione tra i protagonisti è la stessa del pubblico nei confronti di un film. La ragazza e il leopardo si guardano dritto negli occhi, ma sono separati da due distinte proiezioni che li rendono riconoscibili solamente guardandoli da due diverse posizioni. Queste distorsioni costringono lo spettatore a confrontarsi con le immagini da differenti prospettive, così come accade quando si guarda un film. (Fotografie di Matteo Patocchi e Tim Flach)
